The home secretary has asked police to explain why a mistake was made in the government's version of what happened on the day of the London bombings.

John Reid revealed the time at which the bombers left Luton station to head to London was wrong in the official "narrative" of 7 July 2005.

He told MPs the error did not seem to affect anything else in the account.

But he acknowledged it might cause concern and said he had asked police for a report about the discrepancy.

New timings

The official account, published earlier this year, said the four bombers had left Luton train station at 0740 BST on 7 July.

However, it has now emerged that was inaccurate - they actually left at 0725, but the account was right in saying they arrived at King's Cross station at 0823.

Mr Reid said the discrepancy came to light at the end of last week, when police pointed out the inaccuracy.

The bombers went on to attack London's transport network in four bombings - killing 52 people and injuring nearly 800.

Mr Reid was speaking on Tuesday during a Commons debate on the annual report of Parliament's Intelligence and Security Committee.

The home secretary, who has rejected calls for a public inquiry, criticised inaccurate press reports about what intelligence services knew about the bombings.

Wire-tap evidence

The attacks had not been the result of an intelligence failure, he argued, saying it was understandable why two of the bombers had only been on the periphery of the security services' investigations.

Shadow home secretary David Davis praised the work of the intelligence agencies.

But he urged the government to press ahead with allowing phone-tap evidence to be used as evidence in British courts - something ministers have already promised to review.

Mr Davis said all the potential obstacles to the move could be overcome.

"More than a year after the attacks we are still in the absurd position where intercept evidence from foreign jurisdictions is admissible in our courts but evidence from our own services is not," he said.

The government has previously resisted the measure for fear of revealing the source of phone-tap evidence.

Mr Reid said the Home Office was examining two possible ways of using the evidence.

A report would be given to ministers in November, he said.

Fresh Calls For 7-7 Inquiry

There is so much to tackle in this article that I am not sure where to begin.

First things first, the government made a glaring error in their version of the events of 7-7 but are still unlikely to order the public inquiry that the public wants and deserves. Grahame Russell, whose son died that day, says that this "raised concerns about the accuracy of the rest of the report." As we are all aware, this is just the tip of the "concern" iceberg.

So why did the government suddenly decide to highlight this error? Well, to answer that we must begin here:

Mr Reid admitted that the error "may be of concern" and had ordered a report from police into how it had gone undetected for so long.

A report from the police into how it had gone undetected for so long?

Undetected?

Was it really???

Well it did not go undetected here at Start The Revolution as on the 1st October 2005, over 9 months ago, we published a page in our "...and finally" section that clearly stated that those trains did not run. Are the police and the government really so foolish as to have made this "error" when all it required was the wherewithal to contact Thameslink and ask the most obvious of questions? Of course they are not...But they are so foolish that they think this kind of damage control is going to do them any good whatsoever. They are caught red-handed. No if or buts.

If they try to wriggle out of a public inquiry now then that must surely be the final nail getting hammered into the coffin of parliament as we know it. It is time for a fresh start with rules designed to protect the public from the ever expanding power of the government. The law has been changed, distorted, rewritten altogether and abused by this and consecutive previous governments who have no respect whatsoever for the public whom they are supposed to represent and work for. They have no respect for the traditions and culture of our nation. They have no respect for any other nations either as they go around the world attacking anybody they feel like attacking and in OUR name.

For the record we DID call Thameslink and we get accused of being conspiracy theorists!

The government version of events here IS the conspiracy theory. It simply does not add up. There are too many proven discrepancies, errors and cover-ups going on for anything else to be the case.

The fact that the police are trying to lay the blame squarely on the government's doorstep shows just how sick of being the fall guys the police have become. The government, even though they have "ordered an inquiry into how this could have gone undetected for so long", are already starting to roll out their excuse that the fault was with eyewitness testimony used to confirm the time of the trains departure. This holds no water either as the eyewitnesses at Luton station were the very same people who first pointed out that the train did not run that morning as they were waiting for it! If the government is to suddenly accept eyewitness testimony as fact then why are they not also including the eyewitness testimony of Bruce Lait who was sat next to a blast on one of the trains and who has categorically stated over and over again that there was no bomber or rucksack in the vicinity and the bomb was UNDER the train and not inside it as the government version of events claims. (for more information on this go to our streaming videos section and watch "7-7: The Anomalies".)

So we can establish here that:
The public did not get it wrong

The police did not produce the report and so did not get it wrong

The Home Office is blaming everybody else and CLAIMING it did not get it wrong
This sounds like the PERFECT time for a public inquiry!

What next? Will they be admitting that they doctored the photo of the four men outside Luton station! Will they be asking the questions that many people want answers to? How about the Stagecoach depot manager who claimed that the number 30 bus CCTV system, which astonishingly failed on 7-7, was serviced by a never seen before technician who has never returned to the depot since? How about the fact that the number 30 bus was the ONLY bus rerouted that day? How about the the incredibly long list of questions that have been posed by eyewitnesses and investigative reporters, website writers and bloggers that have gone ignored?

Of course they will not ask these questions because they know what the answers will be and what the only logical conclusion to those answers will be...

MI6 did it on behalf of the government to perpetuate the War on Terror, the loss of civil liberties and human rights in the UK and the massive expansion of the powers of a government bent on turning the nation into nothing short of an Orwellian nightmare...

End of story!
