Stephen Harper, the Prime Minister of Canada's Conservative government, called elections in Canada (despite his own government passing legislation which would have put off elections for a few more years), in my opinion, because his party was hoping that McCain would have been elected the President of the U.S. which, if that happened, would bring about a government in Canada which would have cooperated in bringing about a Fascist government in North America which Hitler in his wildest carpet-eating fantasies could have never dreamed of. He and McCain would have made Bush's government seem like inefficient and clumsy neophytes. Harper is a fervent admirer of the Fascistic Friedrich Hayek and Milton Friedman (Hayek's disciple), and is committed to a dismantling of Canada's Medicare system.

He got rid of the Court Challenges Program which would have enabled citizens (such as I) to get funds to hire a lawyer to fight his government against anything his government did which affected the public interest, claiming that he saw no reason why his government should provide funds to people opposed to it. I thought that the government was the people's and he and the others elected to Parliament were there to serve the people, NOT THEMSELVES, with the people's taxes at their disposal! He backed off a bit when there was a public outcry, but only on the language issue, I'm informed.

After gaining a larger minority, he wanted to scrap the federal funding which provided funds to political parties depending on how many votes they got in a Federal election. It seems to me that this was at the bequest of his party's financial backers. They'd support only his party, the Liberals would atrophy for a lack of sufficient funds, and the NDP couldn't provide a full slate of candidates in a next election as the funds they receive from the unions wouldn't be enough. Then, his party would obtain a large majority and they could then do whatever they wanted to do for the benefit of his party and its financial backers. This is why the Liberals and NDP wanted to, with the help of the Bloc Quebecois, make his government fall, claiming a lack of confidence in it.

Obama in the U.S. has a very hard road ahead of him. He won't get any help from the Republicans who will do anything to ridicule and taint his Democrats. The Republicans have friends in the N.S.A. to assist them however they want. (The West Virginia Gazette reported that voters complained that after touching the screen to vote for the Democrats, the vote came up Republican instead. The person in charge clained that the machines hadn't been calibrated as they should have been before the voting started. ????) The task that Obama faces is much harder than the one Hercules faced in cleaning out the Aegean stables, for the U.S. stables has been accumulating horsesh*t since before the war of Independence! Read "The History of the Great American Fortunes" by Gustavus Myers (who Teddy Roosevelt called a 'muckraker'. Myers was using government documents to state his case so the robber barons couldn't sue him!)
