SCOTLAND will be battered by a "super storm" early next week with ferocious winds of up to 80mph. Widespread structural damage is expected, and Scots are being advised not to make unnecessary journeys.

Forecasters are warning that storms hitting across the UK could be the worst since October 1987. Although parts of Northern Ireland and the south west of England should bear the brunt of the extreme weather, Scotland will be badly affected.

The Met Office warned that the UK would suffer very strong, potentially damaging winds, with the Strathclyde area facing severe gales.

Tom Tobler, forecaster with Meteogroup UK, added: "The west of Scotland will not be at the centre of the storm but that doesn't mean you'll escape it.

No escape either. Cripes! I wonder if there are any ark blueprints on the tracker?

Ooh lovely, I'm in Strathclyde, working in the area on Monday & then driving up to Fort William - yesterday's weather report thought that the storm would hit on Monday, with winds of over 100mph... I hope that it does arrive & blow itself out early, or my long drive on Monday could become a bit too "interesting"!

I hope you're not going to be getting too close to any wind turbines up there Cypher.

They're dangerous!

Oh yikes, I also hope not, after seeing that! ohmy.gif
I'm allergic to any form of "Green" politics that increases the wealth of those who control our energy, and windpower is no exception.
I have often wondered how much wildlife gets chopped up with those things - the frightening reduction of species diversity is a far more critical problem than the imaginary threat of "global warming", IMHO.
