Has anyone had any luck with low-end DVD/RW drives. I had one in the past but it would not format the DVDs correctly. WHat have you all had luck with?

Hi iluminaughty. I had a cheap DVD that sucked bad with the OEM rendering software but I got ahold of NERO7 {via torrent} and it worked much better. Maybe that will help.

Sony, lite-on and Pioneer. Sony's are good all-around burner's Pioneer are good for burning but not good for reading DVD's. If you have a small glitch in the DVD, Pioneer drive can not read it.

Good software for burning DVD's is CloneDVD2, and use anyDVD with it. Also Ashampoo Burning Studio v6 is much better then Nero v7 and v6. I opinion Nero SUCKS 100%

I picked up one of those kyphermedia re-branded cyber-something cd and dvd+rw like 2 years ago for $45 ... it worked great and I must have burned maybe 400 dvds with it and had maybe 2 bad ones... cds not such a good record but not bad either. About a month ago I picked up some -R dvds by accident and found on the net a hacked firmware that let use those so I flashed it and it does use the -Rs now but it is now running about 50% coasters for all kinds of media and I havnt been able to find the original firmware yet... heh smile.gif Oh yeah, its completely silent, which is a first for me for any type of drive... ah well.
