The radioactive fallout from a nuclear accident that rocked Britain 50 years ago was underestimated, scientists say. In 1957, a fire at the Windscale nuclear reactor in Cumbria led to a release of radioactive material that spread across the UK and Europe.

But new research claims the incident generated twice as much radioactive material and caused dozens more cancers than was previously thought.

Interesting when investors were supposed to learn that the UK government were going to up their Nuclear plant production , some time around October 10th I believe.

Ah, I didn't realise that. In that case I've changed my position on this story. At first I thought it was what it appears to be, but (as so often) it's not, is it? Overall I think it actually promotes the nuclear industry rather than damages it.

I find it incredible that Britain's emerging energy crisis is treated with the casual regard with which it seems to be by the general public in this country - and it's deliberate of course. Barring a huge reduction in population ( unsure.gif ) I think it's obvious that in the not too distant future the poorer members of our society are going to have very little affordable energy available to them - and yet you can be fairly certain that no-one is going to speak up until the TV goes off. And unfortunately, even in some of the poorest regions of the world one can still find a TV. Oh well, we'll get what we deserve I guess.
