This controversial documentary made for the U.S. Government, directed by John Huston, concerned itself with the rehabilitation of returning World War II soldiers suffering psychosomatic disabilities from the effects of battle fatigue.

Classified as top secret, the film was banned for many years and declassified in 1980. Huston brought a team of Signal Corps cameramen to Mason General Hospital on Long Island, New York, and their cameras revealed that these psychosomatic disabilities were not symptoms of abnormalities, but the response of sound minds that had experienced the unendurable. This is considered one of the greatest films ever made dealing with the impact of war on the human spirit.

Thanks Reboot...

This reminds me of that movie Jacob's Ladder... maybe you've seen it. Vietnam vets are given extremely high dosages of LSD and adrenaline and put into combat. For those who haven't seen it, the film heavily explores trauma based mind control and schizophrenia. The story, since it is entirely unique, I won't say anything more...

Jacob's Ladder

Quote:
Louis (Danny Aiello): "...The only thing that burns in Hell is the part of you that won't let go of life, your memories, your attachments. They burn them all away. But they're not punishing you, he said. They're freeing your soul. So, if you're frightened of dying and... and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. But if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the earth."

Aah, Jacob's Ladder - this is probably my favourite film of all-time. Awesome smile.gif
I'll be checking out "Let there be Light" this weekend - many thanks Reboot. Also, I appreciate the fact that you've added a "buy" link to the other info - nice touch.

A UK media company did something similar based on WWI 'shellshock' - I'll try and find it after I've watched this one.

Jacob's Ladder and Ken Russell's Altered State's are two great films of an era.
