The coming week/10 days will be absolutely critical as regards the shape of all our future. Basically the following is a summary gleaned mainly from articles carried on www.iransolidarity.endofempire.org of the danger of a US/Israeli false flag procured war on Iran, which could engulf the whole world.
With Iraq, Lebanon and now Afghanistan proving recalcitrant to being shaped according to neo-con fantasies, the Republicans are lagging really badly in the US polls and face the prospect of the US election theft scam unravelling and/or loss of one or both Houses of Congress (with ensuing investigations, impeachment, 911 Inquiry etc). So BushCo have got to pull something really big from the bag, and quick.
Already they have been provoking Iran on all sorts of fronts - overflights, destablisation bomb blasts, subversion, amassing troops on its Northern border, amassing huge Nato naval and other forces in the Eastern Mediterranean, and soon they will have an armada of four huge battlegroups off the coast of Iran, plus of course airbases in Diego Garcia, etc. Israel is getting psyched up to join in (partly by blaming Iran for the atttacks on Jewish targets in Argentina in 1992 and 1994 - which now look as if they were false flags: see http://www.iransolidarity.endofempire.org/news.php?page=1145 ).
The obvious move is a huge false flag event -
a.) maybe an 'Iranian attack' on Nato Turkey, with incriminating signals intelligence supplied by Shin Bet, as they did with the 'Libyan attack' on the US soldiers at the La Belle disco in Berlin in the mid eighties;
b.) maybe lots of bombs and scares in the US and Europe - Sir Ian Blair has been warning of just such bomb atttacks, after which he will personally be leading the call for Internment - that could mean us, folks, certainly our Muslim friends who don't lower their eyes when white Massa wants to frame Muslims;
c) or maybe the provocations reach such a dangerous pitch that the Iranians fire one of their super-fast 'squall' Russian missiles, which can travel underwater at 230 mph, and sink an old US aircraft carrier, as Henk Ruyssenaars suggests could easily happen.
Although most Army, Marines and Navy chiefs are opposed to Cheney/Rumsfeld's war drive, the latter are promising
a.) that Iran can be broken and made a terrible public example of without lots of US lives lost on the ground;
b.) that once the nuclear threshold has been decisively crossed then just one such nuclear lynching will be enough to validate all future threats of 'action' from Washington and thus enable the US to drastically scale back, lighten and change its military deployments around the world before the troops and public opinion rebel and/or too many countries gang up on the dollar;
c.) that the means of repression exist to contain domestic opposition so long as accompanied by lots of public fear, shock and confusion of a false flag event.
Of course the neo-liberals, the global 'Realists', and the Republican isolationists are all belatedly trying to rein back the neo-con crazies. But, egged on by the Christian Zionists, and Jewish Zionists, the neocon crazies have been methodically reworking US force posture, strategic and tactical doctrines, rules regarding use of nukes, etc. Thus they have normalised aggressive war and use of nuclear weapons, now defined as 'low casualty'. They have created their own intelligence networks bypassing the regular intelligence community, and now they have been extending their privatised command networks to the executive side , i.e. handpicking reliable people to man the key positions, command the bombers, load up the nukes, etc.
Now that Putin's Russia has stopped pretending to support the US and has cut it out of receiving any more oil or oil/gas contracts the Cold War could easily flare up. Russia, China and so many countries can see how they will all be greatly weakened if the US gets away with grabbing Iranian oil or even preventing other countries from developing non-oil forms of energy. The stakes are huge, the strategic alliances are drawn throughout the geopolitical core of Central Asia, and the scope for miscalculation about other actors' intentions has never been greater.

Despite the misgivings of the military professionals, Joseph Cirincione wrote in the March issue of Foreign Policy that conversations with senior officials in the Pentagon and the White House had convinced him that the decision for war had already been made.
The Washington Post has reported that at least since March, large teams have been working on invasion plans in the Pentagon and the intelligence agencies, while the Iran "desk" at the State Department has been augmented to task force size. It reports to Elizabeth Cheney, daughter of the vice president, who is assistant secretary of state for the Near East.
In the Pentagon, a similar organization has been established under Neoconservative Abram Shulsky. In addition a new outpost has been set up in Dubai to coordinate plans. On October 2, a powerful naval battle group around the giant aircraft carrier Eisenhower sailed for the Persian Gulf and is due to arrive a week before the November Congressional elections to join a similar battle group led by the aircraft carrier Enterprise. Meanwhile aircraft of the U.S. Air Force are being readied in bases surrounding Iran and in distant locations. These forces could deliver destructive power that would dwarf the aerial assaults on Iraq.
