Full Version: 1 vote for BBC/Guardian/Observer Feeds back
ConspiracyResearch.org > Site Events, News and Discussion > FAQ / Help! > Resolved Issues
p2P2p
Can't reply in Links/RSS or Announcements/News subforums so I thought I'd ask this here.

Personally I would like the BBC and Guardian/Observer RSS feeds return - thought not linked/showing via the "View New Posts" facility.

I thought there were good reasons as to why these RSS headlines had been included - i.e. to help users outside of the UK see them, who are usually blocked etc. They were also providing quite nice archives for news for those not wanting to spend too much time getting lost around news/newspaper websites and such. Like it or not, we still need to keep one eye on what the mainstream windbags are saying.

Compromise... how about a new "Mainstream Media RSS Headlines" subforum in the "Links" section, to include BBC World Headlines RSS (Not full BBC RSS - too much entertainment news and sport), Guardian/Observer World Latest RSS, Reuters World News RSS, Independent UK RSS (?), Washington Post RSS (?), New York Times, Le Figaro (Eng edition?) RSS (?) etc. etc.

http://news.independent.co.uk/index.jsp?service=rss
etc. etc.

Just an idea.

Sorry mate, I took them down because no-one ever actually went into the post to click the link - I checked through the past weeks, and the only ones that had been read were the ones I'd looked at.

Apart from that, the BBC / Guardian feeds were pretty much spam, with loads of irrelevant info in there, and far too much of it as well. Our new feeds are very much more on topic, and aren't flooding the boards with useless info. I really like our new feeds though, many thanks for suggesting some of them.

The BBC & Guardian feeds were only meant to be an experiment, and didn't generate nearly enough interest to warrant the amount of manual administration in weeding out all of the useless items.

Members can't post new topics are in the RSS Feeds & Site News sections, as they aren't the appropriate forums for this.

However, can you reply to topics in the rss forums & start new topics in FAQ / Help?
p2P2p
Well I looked at them. Anyone else got any thoughts? I was suggesting specific Headline RSS feeds not all inclusive feeds. I personally think these would be useful and valid.
Cypher
I added a poll for you, let's see how it goes smile.gif
p2P2p
You are missing my point completely and the poll options seems a little skewed.

Suggestion: New "Mainstream News" RSS feed subforum in links area - choose only "Headline" or "World Summary" RSS feeds not "All inclusive ones", expand this beyond only Guardian/BBC - look at them if you want to - if not, just ignore that section. Also why bother editing? They are just titles anyway, the odd one about cricket won't hurt.

The RSS links to the original article, which will be blocked anyway.

There's plenty of sites out there which provide this service such as http://www.newsnow.co.uk/ and http://www.1stheadlines.com/

From a search engine point of view, having specific feeds of 'on topic' information will help theConspiracy Researchranking.. instead of a sea of miscellaneous topics... also with the amount of updates the major news corps produce, a search engine could easily seeConspiracy Researchas a spam site, because of the un-natural speed of posts taking place.
p2P2p
Sure - if your only concern is search engine ranking - I am talking about access to cream/gist of mainstream news which is necessary in the analysis of what is really going on. Why go round 5 mainstream news sites when the best of the headlines are/were summaried right here at this site? Do you see my point?

Can't see much rational sense coming out of the above poll options doh.gif ...just my personal opinion.
MickMeaney
I can see where you're coming from but in this case the negatives outweigh the positives.. it would be handy to compare the mainstream view next to the alt media view, but search engine results can make a site sink or swim.. most sites are found via search engines so it's something I think CR (and any other site) needs to consider very carefully.

If the major news corps feeds stays, there is a very real chance that only the folks currently using the site will be able to do the comparison.

Google algorithms actively seek for this behaviour on sites, and will punish them accordingly.

As I said, it's a good idea - in theory.
Cypher
Sure I see your point P2P2P, but I don't see "mainstream news research" featured anywhere in our logo or site description - and I'm really not sure why cricket etc headlines should be acceptable.

As Mick said, having too much unnecessary stuff on here runs the risk of CR being seen as a spam site by search engines - and 'm sure you're not suggesting that that would be a good idea? The fact remains, that by deleting only the BBC & Guardian forums, HALF of the boards posts disappeared. If that's not SPAM, I don't know what is.

You may not see much rational sense coming from the above poll, but to my mind it's clear that no-one else is keen to have them back - and I also recall that were several people complained about those feeds when they were initially tested.

Why don't you want to use your own RSS newsreader to check the cricket scores etc? Conspiracy Research needs to stay on topic for it to be a viable & useful resource for people who come here looking for conspiracy-related info, which is what we are about - it says on the tin.

Complete spam imho.
faust
Agreed, let it be
p2P2p
With poll options this good why even bother to have a debate? The users make a site sink or swim.

Cypher
In view of the fact that this matter has been adequately and intelligently debated, I note that no-one else has intimated any desire whatsoever to see the return of spam RSS feeds.

Others have given qualified opinions on the matter, so it is not feasible to suggest that their opinions stem from poll options which you personally dislike.

The poll results simply back up the opinions expressed, which indicates that the poll options were, in fact, more suitable than you care to admit. Your own phrase "The users make a site sink or swim" suggests plurality, so the straightforward reason is that I have no desire to disaffect the majority of members by indulging an individual.

Since 1 vote is simply not enough to sway the matter, I'm now moving this thread into the "Resolved Issues" section of FAQ / Help. Thank you for your suggestion, although this one did not make it to the board.

Also the following two feeds were removed, why so? I think they were both useful and maybe worth another look...

Truthout is a full-service news agency dedicated to establishing a powerful, stable voice for independent journalism. The core of our mission is educational. We believe the biggest impediment to responsible decision-making is lack of information. So we provide citizens with access to reader-supported news instead of advertiser-supported news. Our direction is one of social progress as we attempt to shed light on issues of vital interest to the community such as health care, the environment, international relations and human rights.

Slyck P2P Newsfeeds:
(Not usually more than 1-2 headlines per day on this main feed)

Slyck News Feed with byline description
http://www.slyck.com/slyckrss.xml
Slyck News Feed with first paragraph description
http://www.slyck.com/slyckrss2.xml

Also:
Web File Sharing News RSS Feed
http://www.slyck.com/slyckwfsnrss.xml
Web Tech News RSS Feed
http://www.slyck.com/slycktnrss.xml

Less so for the Slyck feeds, but I think the others would be worth considering. smile.gif

Admin edit (Cypher):
The Slyck feed was removed because it's not conspiracy-related, and the TruthOut because it was flooding us.
They won't be back.

We have enough RSS feeds on the board for now, any more and it would be too much. We need more people posting *relevant* stuff, with care taken not to promote the globalists agenda.

Since we already have enough RSS feeds on the board, you're going to have to either use the inbuilt RSS reader in your browser, or install additional RSS software on your computer. Sorry smile.gif
