I didn't even know it,until I recieved a mail from Ctrl stating his apologies and his gratitude.
As I was reading his mail, I got a weird feeling, and clicked to CC to find the truth.
Oh well.I can't be mad.
I will miss CC and Mike. The tracker will continue to go strong though. biggrin.gif
As for the new forums... I really appreciate everything the Cypher has done,I know she is spending her money to bring this to life.
I think this will be a pretty nice place.
Thanks Cypher.

control-alt-delete.ca forum seems to be going again now but if you want any BT & ed2k fodder for this forum feel free to post a copy of any of my posts over here if I don't get around to it.
Open a account here just for that purpose and mirror posts on my behalf if ya like. If anyone is interested in doing this you can send me a PM to let me know or if you need any help getting started ... otherwise just go for it wink.gif

You will also find some guides, ipfilters and help links related to filesharing there if you need it.
I add new things from time to time and you can find forums where I am currently posting too if your interested.

Chris Carota
Thank you! I was looking for a way to start publishing through edk in addition to tracking torrents.
"Con"spiracycentral has been unstable of late to say the least... thanks Tim for compiling all this information and welcome to the site!

yes ed2k is a very rebust & reliable network, once things are put on the network they are usually out there for good.

I find with torrents I only have to up approx 1 and a half times and then there is a bunch of people with full source, whereas ed2k takes about 5 times up before this is the case so BT = good for getting it out fast , ed2k = good for sharing the whole collection.

oh why not, here's another big copy&paste of a rant for you that might be useful if you are new to it.
If any of the Conspiracy Central urls don't work try at looking at www.666fs.com

======================================

This is just some basic tips and info for getting the most out of the edonkey (ed2k) peer2peer network as a few people aren't sure how it works. Done to the best of my knowledge at the present time, please correct me if I have something wrong. Some more useful links here Need Help ? READ THIS

Many guides have been written for ed2k so please read those for finding individual settings, routers, port-forwarding, tweaks, FAQs and all that stuff.

Don't ask me cause these settings are different for everybody. Search the relevant forums for you for help as your question has probably been answered already or else ask them a smart question

http://www.emule-help.com
http://www.emule-project.net/faq
http://www.the-scream.co.uk/forums/t8650.html

No actual files are hosted on this server. The ed2k links posted in the forum are indexing files on the edonkey peer2peer network. Once you have a ed2k client installed you can click ed2k:// urls and connect to other peers who are sharing the data.

ed2k is different from torrents in 2 main ways,
1. No trackers, it's one big network with currently 5-6 million users at any one time.
You connect to servers to search, publish your shares and to find sources for your downloads, these can then be passed between each other to find all sources on all servers.
(the new kad network has intergrated into the ed2k protocol and uses a serverless method - it's recommended to activate both)

2. People usually share and download many files not just a couple at a time like BT.
The upside to this is a huge amount of content and long availability.
The downside is you often have to wait in queues and it's generally slower.
It works best if you leave it running for long periods. Take a number and get in line. wink.gif

emule is the windows client of choice for most people using the edonkey network.

....So the tips?

Use verified link sites. If you click a link when it is newly posted at ed2k sites often someone will have it set on release/high priority (so you don't have to wait in the queue as long). Also if many others click then you get a swarm happening like with BT with everyone trading between themselves.
- This happens with old links too but not to the same extent so expect to wait longer in these cases, but hay.. at least it's still avaliable even years later and if there is a full source for the file it should finish in the end. You can ask if it is possible for someone who may have it to reshare at forums if it has become unavailable but this is hardly ever the case.

Download many files , say 6-10 files at once. (I get ~1gig per day this way but unlike torrents that is usually spread over many files so some things may take days or weeks sometimes to finish - of course this is obscure stuff, more popular files will be faster)

As with BT some ISP's have blocked or limited speeds on the default port that ed2k uses (4662) , just change it to a random number (10000-64000)

emule has a ratio system to stop leeching (taking without giving) and also a credit system between individual clients.
I think it is a 3:1 ratio, meaning you can download 3 times more than you give. Set your speeds at ~80% of total connection, up and down. If you have a terrible DL/UL ratio on your connection ( some isps have 20:1  ) expect to wait in queues longer. The more you upload to others the more you can download yourself . This may take a little while to build up if you are a new user so be patient to get good speeds.
BT may suit people with these connections better as it has no enforced ratio limits, unless set on the tracker, so you can DL faster, of course you are still going to have to leave it shared for 20 times longer to do even a fair 1:1 give/take.

Don't use leech or hacked mods, use official clients only!
Join at the emule forums to see the different modification versions.
These leech mods basicly cheat emules credit system and reask too often and other things that are bad for the network and destroys the basis of the sharing idea. You will just get banned anyway by many people for this and possibly get added to ipfilters - and then you are screwed cause you won't even be able to use normal emule then. Ha Ha.
Not everyone can keep high ratios for different reasons but you should contribute best you can. If you don't you are not welcome on peer2peer networks, use leech friendly methods like Usenet or IRC for that.

The slowly pieces will take longest and go slowly to finish, ed2k is "set it and forget it"....a watched download never finishes smile.gif

...your tip here?...

Ask not what ed2k network can do for you, but what can you do for the ed2k network.

if you have something new you want to share with the world just put it in with your emule shares and it will calculate a identifing hash for the file. Then post it at the forums and others can click this link to download the file.
More tips for releasers: Making a Release post - HOWTO

If you download it, liked it and have the hard drive space then please leave it shared for others, especially things with low sources. And remember, it's p2p so your downloads have to come from other users like yourself, if you are getting as much as you are giving then you are proberly doing ok.

Make a permanent folder for things to leave them shared, if you don't have your whole collection shared already that is. Please set any small files you are sharing on powershare/highest priority, so people don't have to wait hours for a 2 second tranfer.

conclusion
BT is good for getting it out there fast, but ed2k is better for archiving purposes or for sharing your entire collection (those lurkers who never speak but with 500+gigs shared - we love ya work).

It's not good for everyone's needs but if your interested I highly recommend you try it out. Reasonably newbie friendly with a great filesharing community. - I personally use torrents, ed2k and usenet (and a few others from time to time smile.gif )

install official emule http://emule-project.net
or a good modified emule is MorphXT http://emulemorph.sourceforge.net/

put a ipfilter and safe serverlist into your emule's config directory to block the bad guys. I'm currently using the shadowcast filter, you can get that here IPfilter's and Blocklist's

adjust any settings as needed and you are ready to go.

You will be wanting to visit our ed2k section of the forum for verifed links so click here to find yourself some goodies, some personal recommendations in My Shared Folder.
