Just a heads up for those that don't know about usenet.
Lots of good stuff gets posted there for all to leech, (I heard some 3 TB's per day gets uploaded if you counted all the groups) uploading is good but not required so just help yourself to downloads that you want Usenet has been around for ages and it is still a good way to distribute files in many ways but can be a bit more confusing to begin than P2P & may not be good for everyone. upside 1, you only have to upload once then we all download from our newservers cache 2, people can start downloading pieces before you have even finished sending up 3, paid services that don't have logging are to some degree anon downside 1, things don't get archived for very long 2, most isp's don't allow posting cause it's traceable and they get complaints. (gotta get a proper paid service for that) 3, some people's isp's don't offer this service or it is so limited or slow as to be unuseable I recommend Grabit for a good free nzb complatible multi-threaded newsreader for M$. here's some links on HOWTO the ed2k & the first 2 http urls have step by step guides with pictures....love those pictures Ed2k: HOW.TO.get.music.from.Usenet.(alt.binaries).incl.tutorial.and.Win.software.zip Torrent: HOW.TO.get.music.from.Usenet.(alt.binaries).incl.tutorial.and.Win.software.zip.t orrent it's a little bit old now & written for the music groups, but you will get the idea http://abvcd.how.to/ http://www.help4newbies.fsnet.co.uk/home.htm http://www.timdoc.com/ http://www.faqs.org/usenet/ http://www.slyck.com/ng.php google search for free usenet servers http://www.usenetsupport.com/component/opt...id,32/board,4.0 http://services.triceron.com/usenet/srvlist.php good reference sites: http://www.searchlore.org/usenet.htm http://www.usenettools.net/ free nzb indexing sites: http://www.tvnzb.com http://www.nzbsrus.com http://www.nzb-files.nl.nu http://www.nzbzone.com http://www.nfonews.com http://www.o-4-n.co.uk http://www.nzbmonster.com http://www.tops1t3.com http://www.newsreactor.net http://www.filesplit.org http://www.binsearch.info http://www.binaries.nl http://nzb.xsnews.nl paid nzb indexing sites: http://www.newzbin.com http://www.nzb4u.com http://www.ngindex.com Helpful Links ============= Usenet Clients: Xnews http://xnews.newsguy.com/ Agent http://www.forteinc.com/main/homepage.php Newsbin http://www.newsbin.com/ BNR2 http://www.bnr2.org/ PAR2 Utilities: Windows http://www.quickpar.org.uk/ Unix/Linux http://parchive.sourceforge.net/ Mac OSX http://www.xs4all.nl/~gp/MacPAR_deLuxe/ Extract a sample: http://codeccorner.com/usenethelp/WinRar.html#brokenpic yEnc Guide: http://www.yenc.org WinRAR: http://www.rarlab.com/ QuickSFV: http://www.smr-usenet.com/tutor/sfv.shtml NFOPad: http://www.help4newbies.fsnet.co.uk/files/nfopad.zip Codecs: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_so...cs_and_filters/ Posting Guide: http://www.help4newbies.fsnet.co.uk/posting_guide.htm News Servers ======================== Subscription-based Easynews http://www.easynews.com Giganews http://www.giganews.com Supernews http://www.supernews.com Newshosting http://www.newshosting.com Block or Subscription Octanews http://www.octanews.com Shared-Secrets http://www.shared-secrets.com ...so if you don't know about it and are interested read one of those guides & check it out and see if you get access already.
