Orange County deputies arrested a Walt Disney World cast member late Thursday on counts of child pornography, sex-crimes Sgt. Richard Mankewich said.

Matthew Wendland, 20, was arrested on 51 felony counts of possession of child pornography after deputies received a tip.

Deputies approached Wendland at work Thursday afternoon, and he agreed to accompany them to his home. A search revealed he possessed about a dozen printed computer pictures of children under 10 performing sex acts, and more than 1,000 on a CD-ROM disk, Mankewich said.

Additional hard drives retrieved during the search also will be checked, and pictures where the ages of the children are unclear will be reviewed by a physician to determine their ages.

Mankewich does not think Wendland attacked children.

"We interviewed him, and I don't believe he acted out on his fantasies at all," Mankewich said.

Wendland plays the Beast from Beauty and the Beast and sometimes dresses as Goofy. He has worked for Disney for about seven months.

A Disney actor who plays "Goofy" and "The Beast" from 'Beauty and the Beast' faces 51 counts of child porn in Orlando.

20-year-old Matthew Wendland was arrested early this morning at his apartment. Police found explicit photos of children as young as 3 years old, posed in pornographic positions inside Matthew's room. Officials say it was his roommates that led police to the pictures. They say Wendland usually kept his room locked.

The story isn't carried by the New York Times, but there is a snippet there about a further 3 Disney World workers charged with soliciting sex from children, posted on April 3, 2007, which I found after searching for "sex crimes" within the "Disney" section.

Three employees of Disney World were among 28 men arrested and charged with soliciting sex from a child in a four-day sting operation outside Orlando. Sheriff Grady Judd of Polk County said most of the men were arrested after arriving at a house where officers were waiting. The men had communicated online, and in some cases by phone, with undercover officers posing as girls as young as 13.

Disney has a long habit of managing to keep these things out of the media spotlight. Victor Salva, Disney director of "Powder" is a convicted paedophile, who started molesting his victim when he was six years old. Salva escaped any jail sentence whatsoever, & Disney allowed him back on set to make another movie, "Jeepers Creepers" - employment which puts him in close contact with children.

Most film-goers were unaware of Salva's criminal record, as the media were complicit in covering this up. I also found this article online, which makes some astonishing claims about Disney's history, several of which I know to be true, but with some others I'm somewhat dubious about their veracity. If I can find substantiative evidence elsewhere, I'll post more about this.
