Just a heads up for those that don't know about usenet.
Lots of good stuff gets posted there for all to leech, (I heard some 3 TB's per day gets uploaded if you counted all the groups)
uploading is good but not required so just help yourself to downloads that you want

Usenet has been around for ages and it is still a good way to distribute files in many ways but can be a bit more confusing to begin than P2P & may not be good for everyone.

upside
1, you only have to upload once then we all download from our newservers cache
2, people can start downloading pieces before you have even finished sending up
3, paid services that don't have logging are to some degree anon

downside
1, things don't get archived for very long
2, most isp's don't allow posting cause it's traceable and they get complaints. (gotta get a proper paid service for that)
3, some people's isp's don't offer this service or it is so limited or slow as to be unuseable

I recommend Grabit for a good free nzb complatible multi-threaded newsreader for M$. here's some links on HOWTO
the ed2k & the first 2 http urls have step by step guides with pictures....love those pictures smile.gif

Ed2k: HOW.TO.get.music.from.Usenet.(alt.binaries).incl.tutorial.and.Win.software.zip
Torrent: HOW.TO.get.music.from.Usenet.(alt.binaries).incl.tutorial.and.Win.software.zip.t
orrent

it's a little bit old now & written for the music groups, but you will get the idea

Thanks Tim for that comprehensive round up of usenet guides. I was trying only yesterday to make some sense of accessing usenet ( its years since I last used newsgroups), on a quick browse through some usenet sites I had resigned myself to paying hard earned money to one of the commercial usenet sites. This guide opens up a whole new dimension

great stuff, glad you like (y).gif

yes I am always recommending usenet to people, it rocks!! lots of people get access to the binary groups from their isp but don't know about it.
-try and see if you do, you really want the binary groups (cause as attachments they have files to download) you should at least get the text discussion groups . It's leech friendly (upload not required) so you can use it as a extra at the same time as ed2k or BT

I'm just using the one provided by my isp at the moment, of course the paid servers are better (caches for longer, faster, upload , etc)

Usenet is a bit harder for newbies but once you get the hang of it then no problems. Most common trouble is incomplete posts, this happens often on usenet but thats what par files are for. Par's are a very clever way of fixing them so make sure you know how to do that, a guide for quickpar is included in my pack or see > here <
- Cause my isp is a bit slow I just download the first, smallest par, then run it to see if I need more. If you are on a fast connection or on unlimited data download then you can grab them all. - I always include pars in the nzb's I post.

I am always happy to upload any files from my Shared Folder by request so if anyone ever wants to donate me a proper account from which to post them from that would be great. Some paid providers allow accounts to be shared so if someone has one and is willing to share so I can flood up stuff on behalf of Conspiracy Research then send me a PM cool.gif
I heard some 25 million people use the newsgroups so it's a excellent way to get you message out to lots of folks.

I have also hosted a copy of the guide only online here Usenet HOWTO,
and also in my shared folder below the files are some guides for stuff.
I made it for fun for a friend then thought I should share it to the world and over 23,000 people have downloaded this guide from bt and ed2k
